about

Benyaro -- the indie roots project of seclusive Jackson Hole, WY musician who's worked with Gary Clark Jr., Brett Dennen and Shovels & Rope -- announces the release of his fourth full-length album, the original score to "Searching For Fortune", a feature narrative that debuted at Queens World Film Festival in 2017. A dusty tale of self-discovery in the Mountain West, the film and score reflect that space. Written and recorded by Benyaro at his home studio in Wyoming and mixed by legendary engineer Danny Kadar (Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket, etc.).

The 1st release from the "Searching For Fortune" original score and soundtrack is "Scotch and Lemonade". Written by singer/songwriter and close-friend, Scott Claassen, "Scotch and Lemonade" is a country-Americana song telling the story of an optimistic U.S.A. where the rich (the Jones) and the poor (Teresa, Teresita, etc) realize they have more in common with each other than they do not. Upon realizing they all share the burdens of life and family, they come together to drink Scotch & lemonade, their respective favorite drinks. Writer Scott Claassen acknowledges the likelihood of such an event occurring with the line "as the last of those piglets flies away", though he leaves the door open.

lyrics

SCOTCH AND LEMONADE
words & music by Scott Claassen

Seems we've all got things to do
bills to pay, time to kill
Mother jones takes another pill
as she calls her daughter on the phone

Down the street, over the wall
The Jones built, to hide us all
little Teresita crawls
as her brothers watch TV

So many fine fine people
in this world getting stomped all over by
the hearts
City's winter is frozen cold

Some day it will burn off
and we'll all drink Scotch and lemonade
as the last
of those piglets flies away

Mother Teresa is bussing back
from another day at the Jones' pad
she's trying not to face the fact
she might not clear her rent

But she knows
her husband's cool
he's been
hanging out at Jesus Cristo's pool
but puta how she misses that fool
she knows she needs him now

So many fine fine people
in this world getting stomped all over by
the hearts
City's winter is frozen cold

Some day it will burn off
and we'll all drink Scotch and lemonade
as the last
of those piglets flies away

The number 10 bus will take her back
past industry and rusty shacks
while little Teresita can lie in her lap
and they both can go to sleep

In the liquor store there are always friends
and the corner has young gentlemen
looking for a better way to make the ends meet
we've got to get our pie somehow

So many fine fine people
in this world getting stomped all over by
the hearts
City's winter is frozen cold

Some day it will burn off
and we'll all drink Scotch and lemonade
as the last
of those piglets flies away

about

Benyaro Jackson, Wyoming

From the dank depths of the Brooklyn subways to the spiritually orgasmic heights of Jackson Hole WY, Ben Musser's indie roots project BENYARO carves a unique path w 1 rule: make great art. Honest, vulnerable shit. Neil Jenny once told Ben "In order to create something truly unique 1 must shut out the influence of others". If anything, here's a killer contemporary artists' advice applied to music. ... more
